Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations or algorithms: it is about understanding. William Paul Thurston
I started working at Woodside Elementary School in 1994. In the beginning I worked as an aide. My four kids were quite young and my working as an aide fit with my life as a mom. As my kids got older and I gained more experience I worked as a part-time science teacher and a part-time math teacher. I started teaching fifth grade full time about 16 years ago and then moved to the middle school about 7 years ago. I am very fortunate to be one of those people who has had the opportunity to do interesting and exciting work that I love doing. I love teaching. But I did have a life and a career before I came to WES. I worked as a research associate at Stanford and Harvard and finally in RD at Becton-Dickinson before taking a few years be an at home mom.
I love the mountains and have spent many happy times backpacking, hiking, camping and rafting with my family. This summer my husband, Chris, and I went to Silver Lake for a few days then on to Mono Lake and down to Mammoth Lakes for a while then back through Tuolumne Meadows. Our trips may be less rugged but our passion and love for the outdoors has not changed we just passed the more ambitious treks on to the next generation. We love hearing stories from our kids about their excursions into the wilderness.
