News from Woodside Musical Theatre

Since 1957, Woodside Community Theatre has produced forty major Broadway musicals — we are celebrating our return from two dark pandemic years by adding “musical” to our name. We’re the same people, and we still have the same “community” spirit! And, we are really, really happy to be back on stage again!
Bright Star
WMT’s fall production for 2022 is Bright Star, with music by comedian Steve Martin and singer-songwriter Edie Brickell. Spanning the Roaring 1920s to post-war 1940s, it tells a compelling and heartwarming story of love, loss and reunion. The music is bluegrass in style, making it truly unique in musical theatre. The New York Timesraved of Bright Star: “The musical is gentle-spirited, not gaudy, and moves with an easygoing grace where others prance and strut…. And it tells a sentiment-spritzed story... the songs boast simple but seductive melodies, and lyrics that have a sweet, homespun quality.”
Bright Star will be performed in the (fabulous) Woodside Performing Arts Center October 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23 — evening performances on Friday and Saturday, and matinees on Sunday. Tickets will be on sale in the summertime.
WMT team
For Bright Star, WMT has assembled one of our most talented artistic teams ever. Gary Stanford, Jr., who directed our Ragtime and Annie, will direct. Brett Strader returns to WMT as music director, having served in the same role for our Spamalot. And Renée Lubin, well known to Beach Blanket Babylon audiences, makes her WMT debut as vocal director. We are delighted and honored to have such a powerhouse group of directors leading this production!
Auditions for Bright Star will be held in Woodside on June 6 and 7, starting at 7:00 PM. WMT encourages performers from throughout the Bay Area, of all ethnic, racial and gender backgrounds, to consider auditioning for this amazing show.
Rehearsals will be held beginning on about August 15, in and around Woodside, typically Monday through Thursday evenings. As always, we value our actors’ time and schedule rehearsal periods carefully. Not everyone is called every night. This year, we are offering expense reimbursement for those gas bills and bridge tolls, too.

Information about auditions, and appointment signup, is available on our website.
