The Years That Matter Most
How College Makes or Breaks Us
Featuring Paul Tough in Conversation with Denise Pope, PhD

Thursday, Oct 3, 7pm
Menlo School

Does college work? Does it provide real opportunity for young people who want to improve themselves and their prospects? Or is it simply a rigged game designed to protect elites with power and wealth and exclude everyone else?  For many of us, our doubts and resentments about higher education live side by side with an appreciation, even a yearning, for the life-changing personal transformation that a college education can provide. Paul Tough's new groundbreaking book, will shake you up, inspire and enrage you, and make you think differently about who we are as a country - and whether the American dream of opportunity and mobility is still a worthy one.

Walk The Talk
To fully capitalize on the 2019-20 expanded Common Ground slate, WES Parent Education is excited to inaugurate "Walk the Talk Thursdays." This is an informal opportunity to discuss insights gained and questions raised during Common Ground presentations — and basically pick each other's brains while we walk the Albion Loop, ending at the HUB for wrap-up.

About WES Parent Education
Through our Woodside PTA Parent Education Committee, we give you the opportunity to attend talks in two different speaker series, the "In-House Speaker Series" and the Common Ground Speaker Series.  The In-House Speaker Series is held at Woodside School.  Common Ground, a coalition of Bay Area schools that includes the Woodside School, holds lectures at other local schools.  All talks are given by experts and cover a broad range of topics interesting and relevant to parents.  ALL EVENTS ARE FREE OF CHARGE!  The Woodside PTA generously pays for the Parent Education Committee in-house speakers and the Common Ground membership fee so that our parents and school staff can attend all events for free!

Please take a look at these special events hosted by your PTA Parent Education Committee. At these not-to-be-missed events you can join your friends and fellow Woodside families to learn and bond over parenting and education issues that are current in the news and on our minds these days.  As we rally to learn, dialogue, and be inspired, we invest in the cumulative wealth, knowledge, education and resources of our parent, family, and school community.
