I am thrilled to be working here at Woodside as a Literacy Specialist! This is my 31th year of teaching and my very fourth year teaching in California, and I feel very fortunate to be part of the Woodside Elementary school team! This summer my husband and I realized our long term dream and we moved to Santa Cruz from Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
I went to Lesley University in Massachusetts where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree with a dual major in Elementary Education and Special Education. I developed a special passion for teaching students how to read during a student teaching experience. A few years later, after working as a Resource Room teacher and first grade teacher in New Hampshire, as well as a kindergarten teacher at an international school in Japan, I completed a Master’s degree in Education with a specialization in Reading and I became a Reading Specialist. I am also a trained and experienced Reading Recovery teacher.
I work primarily with students in grades K-2 — working 1:1 with students when appropriate and with small groups. I look forward to teaming with classroom teachers and other staff to meet the literacy needs of Woodside students!
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy reading, biking, yoga, cooking and flower-arranging. I also love to travel, and I’ve actually traveled around the world twice! Now I’m most excited about traveling all around this beautiful state with my husband and our two college-age daughters who have grown-up in California and are now enjoying having a second home here.
