I grew up in suburban Connecticut, on the outskirts of New York City. I attended a K-8 elementary school, where I most loved reading all of my subjects. In college, I majored in history and political science and also spent a year abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France. After college, I moved to Washington, D.C. to work for my Congressman from CT. While in D.C., I tutored in a homeless shelter and was responsible for training new staff at my job. Through these two experiences, I realized I wanted to become a teacher, so I went back to school. Once I graduated, I drove cross country with my D.C. roommate, who had secured an internship in San Francisco, and so I got my first job as a teacher there too. I thought I would only stay here for a few years and explore the west coast, but I never left. I do spend my summers back east so I think I get the best of both coasts!
When I first came to Woodside School I taught social studies and ELA. I fell in love with the school library and brought my classes there as much as I could possibly fit it into our schedule! I decided to get a supplemental credential in library services and when the librarian retired, I moved into that position. The biggest contribution I’ve made to the library is creating and developing the young adult fiction and nonfiction section for our middle schoolers.
