Several years ago I moved back into educational technology as the technology lead after teaching 3rd grade for the previous 5 years. Overall this is my tenth year in the area of technology in the classroom and in schools and I love every minutes of it. My current role gives me a balance between instruction and managing Woodside’s technology infrastructure.
On the instruction side I teach coding to 3rd – 5th grade students. We start off exploring basic concepts using Scratch or BYOB in third grade. In 4th grade student spend one trimester each of LEGO robotics, HTML, and more coding. In 5th grade I work with the design teacher and classroom teachers on 2 design projects and then a coding unit involving Python. I also teach several middle school electives. I’m available to work with teachers and students in all grade levels to support using technology in their classrooms.
On the infrastructure side I am involved in all aspects of technology used here at Woodside. We contract out for our network support and are in the process of making some improvements. This year some of our students started using Chromebooks and we plan to fully switch over to them at beginning of the next school year.
