Sarah Machadomachado
7th & 8th Grade Science
Hello! I'm excited to join the Woodside community as the 7th and 8th grade Science teacher!

My journey as an educator began in environmental and marine science education, where I helped students explore local ecosystems and understand our connection to the natural world. One of my favorite roles was sailing aboard the O'Neill Sea Odyssey catamaran, introducing students to the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and inspiring them to become lifelong stewards of our oceans. That passion ultimately led me to the classroom, where I could build lasting relationships with students while nurturing their curiosity every day.

Since then, I have taught high school Biology, led science curriculum design, and supported educators across the country in strengthening science teaching and learning. I earned my B.S. in Biological Sciences from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and my Master of Arts in Education from UC Santa Cruz.

I love helping students realize they are scientists and engineers already. Starting with their natural curiosity about the world around them, I help students build confidence in science as they ask questions, investigate ideas, gather evidence, and work together to explain how the natural world works. My hope is that every student leaves my classroom knowing they belong in science and have what it takes to make a difference.

When I'm not teaching, you can find me exploring the coast near my home in Half Moon Bay, hiking local trails, searching tidepools, spending time with family in Santa Cruz, or enjoying the outdoors with my husband Frankie and our Saint Bernards.

I look forward to a wonderful year of learning and discovery with Woodside students and families!
