SEL & MUSIC
Social Emotional Learning are very important skills that we work to develop here at Woodside School. The K-4 music program is dedicated to helping the students develop SEL (EQ) skills and reduce performance anxiety that all students have when they prepare and present in a concert.
These songs are to help us remember the definitions and teach us how we can use these skills everyday.
Know Yourself (self-awareness)
Choose Yourself (self-management)
Give Yourself (relationship skills/giving back)

WES CHANT
Hey! Get ready!
To be blown away.
Woodside School is here
And we're going all the way.
Ingenuity, empathy, and hope
We're headed for the top.
Resiliency to cope.
WILD CATS can't be stopped!
SEE ME BEAUTIFUL
See me beautiful
Look for the best in me
It's what I really am
And all I want to be
It may take some time
It may be hard to find
But see me beautiful
See me beautiful
Each and every day
Could you take a chance
Could you find a way
To see me shining through
In everything I do
And see me beautiful
I THINK YOU’RE WONDERFUL
I think you're wonderful
When somebody says that to me
I feel wonderful, as wonderful can be
It makes me wanna say the same thing to somebody new
And by the way I've been meaning to say
I think you're wonderful, too
When we practice this phrase in the most honest way
And find something special in someone each day
We'll lift up the world one heart at a time
It all starts by saying this one simple line
I think you're wonderful
When somebody says that to me
I feel wonderful, as wonderful can be
It makes me wanna say the same thing to somebody new
And by the way I've been meaning to say
I think you're wonderful, too
When each one of us feels important inside
Loving and giving and glad we're alive
Oh what a difference we'll make in each day
And all because someone decided to say...
I think you're wonderful
When somebody says that to me
I feel wonderful, as wonderful can be
It makes me wanna say the same thing to somebody new
And by the way I've been meaning to say
I think you're wonderful, too
And by the way I've been meaning to say, I think you're wonderful, too
We’re Going to be Friends (Jack Johnson)-
Fall is here, hear the yell
Back to school, ring the bell
Brand new shoes, walking blues
Climb the fence, books and pens
I can tell that we are going to be friends
Yes I can tell that we are going to be friends
Walk with me Suzy Lee
Through the park and by the tree
We can rest upon the ground
And look at all the bugs we’ve found
Safely walk to school without a sound
We safely walk to school without a sound
Well here we are no one else
We walk to school all by ourselves
There’s dirt on our uniforms
From chasing all the ants and worms
We clean up and now it’s time to learn
We clean up and now it’s time to learn
Numbers letters learn to spell
Nouns and books and show and tell
Play time we will throw the ball
Then back to class through the hall
The teacher marks our height against the wall
The teacher marks our height against the wall
And we don’t notice any time pass
Because we don’t notice anything
And we sit side by side in every class
The teacher thinks that I sound funny
But she likes it when you sing
Tonight I’ll dream in my bed
While silly thoughts run through my head
Of the bugs and alphabet
And when I wake tomorrow I’ll bet
That you and I will walk together again
Because I can tell that we are going to be friends
I can tell that we are going to be friends

Empathy Song
I don’t know what it’s like to be you and
I don’t know what you have to go through but
I can try to see the world through your eyes
Put myself in your shoes and Empathize
A: Emphasize?
B: No, no, no. Empathize, not emphasize, …but empathize.
A: Entropy?
B: No, no no. Empathy, not entropy,…but empathy.
A: OH…
Every story has more than oneside
It’s not about what’s wrong or right
Who’s to judge what’s good or bad
What makes me laugh might make you mad
Let’s try to make a deal
We’ll listen to each other and see how the other feels
With empathy we can understand
We can solve our problems and make amends
I don’t know what it’s like to beyou and
I don’t know what you have to go through but
I can try to see the world through your eyes
Put myself in your shoes and Empathize
A: Emphasize?
B: No, no, no. Empathize, not emphasize, …but empathize.
A: Entropy?
B: No, no no. Empathy, not entropy,…but empathy.
A: OH…
Everybody’s got a different point of view
How would I feel if I were you?
Some people think this, some people think that,
I’m telling you empathy is where it’s at
We can solve our problems by talking and listening
Instead of judging we can look at things differently
Write to congress and get them to see
Instead of fighting we can try to use empathy, not entropy, but empathy
I don’t know what it’s like to be you and
I don’t know what you have to go through but
I can try to see the world through your eyes
Put myself in your shoes and Empathize
A: Emphasize?
B: No, no, no. Empathize, not emphasize,…but empathize.
A: Entropy?
B: No, no, no. Empathy, not entropy,…but empathy.
A: OH…
A: not entropy, but empathy
B: (talkin’ ‘bout empathy)

It’s All Right to Cry
Free to Be Foundation, Inc.
It’s all right to cry.
Crying gets the sad out of you.
It’s all right to cry.
It might make you feel better.
Raindrops from your eyes
Washing all the mad out of you.
Raindrops from your eyes.
It might make you feel better.
It’s all right to feel things
Though the feelings can be strange.
Feelings are such real things
And they change and change
And change.
Sad and grumpy
Down in the dumpy
Snuggly huggly
Mean and ugly
Sloppy slappy
Hoppy happy
Change and change and change
It’s all right to know
Feelings come and feelings go.
And it’s all right to cry.
It might make you feel better.
Respect
from BeBop Your Best R. Grammer
If I respect you - and you respect me
And we respect each other
What a world this will be
You'll be glad I'm me - and I'll be glad you're you
‘Cause that's just what folks who respect each other do.
If you let me talk till I'm finished
And I listen when you speak your mind
And we choose our words carefully
We'll hear each other differently
It's one more way respect can be defined.
If I respect you - and you respect me
And we respect each other
What a world this will be
You'll be glad I'm me - and I'll be glad you're you
‘Cause that's just what folks who respect each other do.
When I don't dis what you do
And you let me be who I am
And we don't label anyone
Or pick on others just for fun
We show respect's a word we understand.
If I respect you - and you respect me
And we respect each other
What a world this will be
You'll be glad I'm me - and I'll be glad you're you
‘Cause that's just what folks who respect each other do.‘Cause that's just what folks, just what folks
Just what folks who respect each other do.
Perseverance
from BeBop Your Best Red Grammer
You can't hit a baseball till you learn to swing a bat
Before you do a somersault there's lots of falling flat
If getting good's the question the answer's very clear
To get to where you're going, well, you've got to persevere
So Try, Try, Try, Try, Try, and Try again
Why cry, "Why?", when you can try again
You can help by giving yourself another chance and then...
Whenever it's tough just show ‘em your stuff
And try and try again
You can't play a saxophone until you learn to blow
You can't play a violin until you learn to bow
If getting good's the question the answer's very clear
To get to where you're going, well, you've got to persevere
So Try, Try, Try, Try, Try, and Try again
Why cry, "Why?", when you can try again
You can help by giving yourself another chance and then...
Whenever it's tough just show ‘em your stuff
And try and try again
When you have to practice to make it on the team
Or when you've got some homework that makes you want to scream
You're sure to find that nothin' ever makes you feel as good
As when you finally get it right just like you knew you could... So
Try, Try, Try, Try, Try, and Try again
Why cry, "Why?", when you can try again
You can help by giving yourself another chance and then...
Whenever it's tough just show ‘em your stuff
And try and try again
Whenever it's tough just show ‘em your stuff
And try... and try... a-gain!
WHEN I GET A FEELING
When I get a feeling I try to feel it
I want to know what it is and what it's trying to say
Whether I'm reeling or quietly feeling
It's a part of me, I was made that way
Hello anger,you sure look mad
Hello blues, why you feeling so sad
Anxious, grateful, eager, afraid
These are just a few of the friends I've made
Frustrated tells me it's time to relax
Thoughtful quietly gives me the facts
Tired tells me to get some rest
Satisfied says, "You've done your best"
When I get a feeling I try to feel it
I want to know what it is and what it's trying to say
Whether I'm reeling or quietly feeling
It's a part of me, I was made that way
Things like worried and jealous used to be
An incomprehensible language to me
Twitches and tingles, an inner sensation
I finally learned to do the translation
Now greedy tells me, "You want too much!"
Tenderness is asking for a gentle touch
Confidence tell me "you're doing okay"
And joyful shouts, "It's a wonderful day!"
When I get a feeling I try to feel it
I want to know what it is and what it's trying to say
Whether I'm reeling or quietly feeling
It's a part of me, I was made that way
Happy or sad, there's no good or bad
A feeling's a feeling with something to say
There's at least one a minute with wisdom within it
They help me to grow as I go on my way
When I get a feeling I try to feel it
I want to know what it is and what it's trying to say
Whether I'm reeling or quietly feeling
It's a part of me, I was made that way
RIVER
I was born in the path of the winter wind,
And raised where the mountains are old.
Their springtime waters came dancing down;
I remember the tales they told.
The whistling ways of my younger days
to quickly have faded on by
but all of their memories linger on
like the light of the fading sky
River, take me along, in your sunshine, sing me your song.
Ever moving and winding and free,
You rolling old river, you changing old river,
Let’s you and me, river, run down to the sea.
I've been to the city and back again
I've been moved by some things that I've learned
Met a lot of good people and I call them my friends
felt the change when the season turned
I’ve heard all the songs that the children sing,
And listened to love’s melodies,
I’ve felt my own music within me rise;
Like the wind in the autumn trees.
River, take me along, in your sunshine, sing me your song.
Ever moving and winding and free,
You rolling old river, you changing old river,
Let’s you and me, river, run down to the sea.
Some day when the flowers are blooming in still
some day when the grass is still green
my rolling river will round the bend
and flow into the open sea
So here’s to the rainbow that followed me here,
And here’s to the friends that I know,
And here’s to the song that’s within me now;
I sing it wherever I go.
River, take me along, in your sunshine, sing me your song.
Ever moving and winding and free,
You rolling old river, you changing old river,
Let’s you and me, river, run down to the sea
A PLACE IN THE CHOIR
All God's critters got a place in the choir
Some sing low, some sing higher
Some sing out loud on the telephone wire
And some just clap their hands, or paws
Or anything they got.
Listen to the bass, it's the one on the bottom
Where the bullfrog croaks and the hippopotamus
Moans and groans with a big to-do
The old cow just goes MOOOOO
The dog and the cat pick up the middle
While the honey bee hums and the cricket fiddles
The donkey brays and the pony neighs
And the old coyote howls OOO
All God'scritters got a place in the choir
Some sing low, some sing higher
Some sing out loud on the telephone wire
And some just clap their hands, or paws
Or anything they got.
Singin' inthe night-time, singin' in the day
Little duck quacks, and he's on his way
The possum ain't got much to say
And the porcupine talks to himself
It's a simple song of livin' sung everywhere
By the ox and the fox and the grizzly bear
Grumpy alligator and the hawks above
Sly raccoon and the turtle dove.
All God'scritters got a place in the choir
Some sing low, some sing higher
Some sing out loud on the telephone wire
And some just clap their hands, or paws
Or anything they got.
(Animal sounds!)
All God's critters got a place in the choir
Some sing low, some sing higher
Some sing out loud on the telephone wire
And some just clap their hands, or paws
Or anything they got.
All God's critters got a place in the choir------XX
FILL A BUCKET
Red Grammer
Fill a Bucket 2x
Everyday 2x
I can fill a bucket 2x
You can too 2x
Fill Your Bucket
Hold the hands of the friends on either side of you,
And don’t let go at all, that’s what we all should do.
It’s only holding hands, but it means so much.
We’re filling buckets, with just a simple touch.
Let’s be fill bucket fillers, that’s what we all should be.
Our bucket is invisible, it’s really make believe.
But there’s no doubt what a kind act can do.
It makes someone feel good and comes right back to you.
When we’re kind,we fill our bucket.
When we’re nice,we fill yours too.
When we help, we fill our bucket.
When we smile, we fill yours too.
Keep holding hands and sway from side to side.
We feel much better now and we know why.
It’s only holding hands, but it means so much.
We’re filling buckets, with just a simple touch.
When we’re kind,we fill our bucket.
When we’re nice,we fill yours too.
When we help, we fill our bucket.
When we smile, we fill yours too.
Keep holding hands and standing straight and tall,
Bring your arms really high and don’t let go at all.
It’s only holding hands, but it means so much.
We’re filling buckets, with just simple touch.
When we’re kind,we fill our bucket.
When we’re nice,we fill yours too.
When we help, we fill our bucket.
When we smile, we fill yours too.
Keep holding hands and shout “hip hip hourray!”
Let’s celebrate filling our buckets too.
When you wake up tomorrow, to start your day,
Refill your bucket with all you do and say.
When we’re kind,we fill our bucket.
When we’re nice,we fill yours too.
When we help, we fill our bucket.
When we smile, we fill yours too.
When we’re kind,we fill our bucket.
When we’re nice,we fill yours too.
When we help, we fill our bucket.
When we smile, we fill yours too.
"Somewhere Over The Rainbow / What A Wonderful World"
OOO...OOO...OOO.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Dreams really do come true ooh oh
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me
Oh, somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to,
Oh why, oh why can't I?
Well I see trees of green and red roses too,
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Well I see skies of blue
And I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying, I...I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more than we'll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world world
Someday I'll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That's where you'll find me
Oh, somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dream that you dare to, why, oh why can't I? I?
L-O-V-E
L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore can
Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it
Love was made for me and you
GRATITUDE
When someone does me a little favor
Like saving me a jellybean in my favorite flavor
I'm so grateful, so very grateful
I say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
If you pass me the mashed potatoes
And remember to put the gravy on the side
I'm so grateful, so very grateful
I say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
Chorus
Show a little gratitude, make someone smile
It's worth your while and so easy to do
Just a little thank you may be all they need to be guaranteed
To redo their good deed for someone new
If you should warn me, "Watch out! Don't step in that!"
Or tell me I've got spinach stuck between my teeth
You know that I'm grateful, eternally grateful
I say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
Chorus
When I wake up and walk outside each day
The earth, the sun, the sky... they just blow me away
I'm so grateful, incredibly grateful
I say Thank You, Thank You, Thank You
Thank you! Gracias! (Spanish) Danke! (German) and Merci Beaucoup! (French)
Arigato! (Japanese) That's how I say thanks to you!
Komawoyo! (Korean) Shukran (Arabic) Salamat! (Tagalog - Philippines)
Ngiyabonga (Ndebel -Zimbabwe) Kia ora (Maor -New Zealand/Australia) Thanks a lot!
