INSTRUMENT SUPPLIES
Having instrument supplies is crucial to each student’s success in his/her music class.  For your information, I have listed the supplies students should have with them every time they play. In addition to music stores in the area, there are some online dealers that you can find if you’d prefer.  I often buy supplies at www.musiciansfriend.com. It is recommended that students get supplies as soon as possible.

Flute: Cleaning rod & cloth (men’s handkerchief preferred, but a small piece of old t-shirt ok)

Clarinet/Saxophone:

• Cork grease
• Reeds (Vandoren recommended), but Rico ok for 5th grade students
• Beginners start with #2 reeds
• Intermediate-Advanced players should be on at least a #2.5
• Swab/Cleaner
• Mouthpiece cleaner

Percussion:

• 1 pair of drumsticks (recommended 5B)
• Mike Balter 10B general bell/xylophone mallets
• Vic Firth T1 general timpani mallets
• Small mallet bag to hold sticks & mallets
  • please put a name label on all sticks, mallets & bag
• For home: practice pad, bell kit
   ** Another option is a ready-made kit at Bridgepoint Music in Menlo Park**

Brass:

• Valve oil for trumpets, baritones, and tubas
• Rotor oil for French horns
• Slide oil for trombone
• All brass will need slide grease (for tuning slides only)

5th grade students will also need to purchase a method book (for their instrument) home/personal use. Class set, but they cannot go home with students. The method book is called Measures of Success, published by F.J.H Music Company.
